Questions:
  1. What is this a monument to? Event? Person? Object? Situation? This monument is dedicated to famous abolitionists who are typically overlooked.
  2. Would this make a plausible real monument, or could it ( and should it) only exist virtually? This is a plausible real monument.
  3. What is it made of? This monument is simply, but powerfully, just etchings into the outside of the Lincoln Memmorial
  4. Where is it located? (specifically!) Each etching is located on the outside front wall of the Lincoln Memorial. Each figure is behind a pillar.
  5. How does it change as you move around it? When you come close to each figure, you can no longer see the Washington Monument or the beautiful view- a white pillar blocks you and is directly in front of you
  6. How would the visitor interact, or not interact, with it? At the bottom of etched figure, there are etched footprints in the floor. When you stand on the footprints, the figure behind you acts as your shadow, and from where you are standing, you are unable to see the Washington Monument. When you leave the footprint and relocate on a couple feet over, you are able to see the Washington Monument.
  7. Does it recontextualize the things around it? How different would it be in another location? Yes, this monument recontextualized the things around it. It challenges the grandiose Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, placing it under a critical light. The meaning of this monument is really dependent on its orientation, so placing it in another location would change the meaning drastically.
  8. Would passers-by recognize your project as a monument? I think some of them would and some of them would not. I feel as though many would just few it as an addition to the Lincoln Memorial.

This is another diagram of the front of Lincoln, but without the columns. The blue ovals indicate where a column would be. The red "x"'s indicate the columns that do not have a figure behind them.
